Our Story and Commitment
In the fast-paced, ever-evolving world of hospitality, where room rates fluctuate like Texas weather and guest expectations rise faster than a fresh pot of lobby coffee, The Hotelier Times was born from a simple yet powerful conviction: hoteliers deserve more than headlines—they deserve stories that matter, strategies that work, and a community that lifts them up.
Founded by Nathan Snyder, Vice President of Business Development at RestAssure Hotels and a lifelong builder in the hospitality space, The Hotelier Times emerged from the trenches of real-world hotel operations. With roots in everything from fine-dining service and music festival organizing to launching a pet-friendly guest protection platform, Nate has seen firsthand the triumphs and tight margins that define this industry. What started as a passion project to share practical insights has grown into a weekly beacon for independent and boutique hotel owners, GMs, and operators navigating 2026’s unique mix of opportunity and pressure.
The Spark That Lit the Fire
Like many great ideas in hospitality, ours was forged in necessity. Amid labor shortages, skyrocketing operational costs, and the dizzying pace of AI adoption, Nate noticed a gap: plenty of noise, but not enough grounded, actionable storytelling. Publications had covered the glamour of luxury chains for decades, yet the day-to-day heroes running 50- to 200-room properties—balancing ancillary revenue experiments, insurance headaches, and the eternal quest for genuine guest loyalty—often felt overlooked.
We set out to change that. Drawing inspiration from established voices like Hotelier Magazine (the authoritative Canadian staple since 1989) and HOTELS Magazine (passionately chronicling the global scene since 1966), we carved our niche: unfiltered insights, hero spotlights, and forward-looking analysis tailored for those who actually sign the paychecks and greet guests at the front desk.
One early win? Our deep dive into boutique hotels mastering ancillary revenue—turning everything from parking to personalized experiences into $20–$75+ per occupied room boosts—resonated because it came from operators who’ve tested it themselves. And at HITEC 2026, we didn’t just report on agentic AI; we celebrated the E20X winners while reminding readers that technology should enhance, not replace, the human heart of hospitality.
Our Commitment: Powerful Stories for Hotel Professionals
At The Hotelier Times, we don’t chase clicks with doom-and-gloom forecasts. We commit to being your trusted co-pilot in a turbulent market. Here’s what that means in practice:
- Truth Over Hype: We cross-reference trends with real data and operator experiences. Whether it’s AAHOA’s new insurance programs potentially slashing premiums or practical AI tools combating labor shortages, we cut through the buzz to deliver what actually moves the needle.
- People First: Inspired by stories like that of 2026 Microtel GM of the Year Michelle Warner, we believe the greatest innovation is still genuine human connection. Tech is vital, but it’s the teams and leaders who create memories worth sharing that build lasting loyalty.
- Practical Optimism with a Side of Humor: Yes, costs are rising and OTAs still loom large, but so are creative solutions. We’ll explore total revenue strategies, dynamic pricing powered by AI, and experiential packages that turn one-night stays into memorable (and profitable) journeys—always with the understanding that running a hotel is equal parts art, science, and occasional controlled chaos.
- Community-Driven: This isn’t a one-way broadcast. We amplify your successes, tackle your challenges (from brokerage market divergences to guest dispute resolution), and foster connections across the independent hospitality landscape. Because in an industry built on hospitality, we should extend it to each other.
We’re not here to sell you yesterday’s playbook. We’re here to equip you for tomorrow’s opportunities—whether you’re a boutique owner squeezing more from every square foot or a GM redefining what “limited service” can truly mean.
